On-Site vs Off-Site Optimization

October 17, 2009

SEO techniques can be broken down into two general categories – onsite and offsite. Both of these will benefit your rankings, so it’s worth your time to address them both when building and promoting your website.

On-site SEO includes the specific actions you take on your webpages to increase your search engine position.

Off-site SEO techniques are the actions you take outside of your webpages to increase your search engine position. Backlinks are one of the most important strategies in the offsite SEO toolbox. For example, say you’ve put together a site on reducing hypertension and heart attacks. If Google or another major search engine notices that the American Heart Association has linked back to your site, it assumes your site must include good content. The more of these quality links back to your site you get, the more free traffic you’ll receive from the search engines because your site will rank higher.

Both on-site and off-site optimization help the search engines categorize your site and rank it higher. On-site optimization is more under your control than off-site optimization. So you need to make sure each page of your site is well optimized and then start a link building campaign.

New SEO Strategies

September 15, 2009

New SEO Strategies Google keep on changing their algorithms and therefore you should keep on changing your SEO strategies if you want to score high ranking in SERPs and also high PR.

The basic and the fundamental key to the success of SEO are to keep tracking the changes made by the Google in their algorithms. But most of the SEO experts and consultants cannot grasp their algorithm very easily. The easiest way to learn the algorithm of Google is through the experience.

So, you should collect all the ideas from the experience of different webmasters and SEO consultant and not according to a single SEO expert. Now I just want to share some of the tips and my experience about SEO according to the new and the latest algorithm of Google. Recently Google implement some new algorithms to rank the websites and blogs in SERPs and also in PR.

The points of SEO are summarized as:

1. Dynamic Update: This time Google’s new algorithm is based on dynamic algorithm and update and not a single update in a particular period of time. You would say “Google always follow dynamic update”. Yes, Google always keep on checking the websites, contents and backlinks. But this time Google is updating the toolbar PR dynamically. So, you couldn’t expect that there will no change of toolbar PR after for three or more months after the last toolbar PR update. So, you must keep updating new original contents and also should always try to build natural backlinks of your websites.

2. Banned Words: There are certain words that Google has been trying to clean completely from their search engine. They are trying to ban those websites those websites which are using these words. These words are: Sponsor, Partner Links, Exchanged Link, Paid post and any other types of level. So, you should not use those programs for which all these types of labels are mandatory.

3. Disclosure Policy: Most of the websites or blogs where there are reviews of PayPerPost are continuously penalized and cleaned by the Google from their search engine. The site wide disclosure policy and the in-post disclosure policy provide an opportunity to the Google to esily ban those blogs. So, you should remove those disclosure policies.

4. Contents: Now Google is giving more importance on contents and you will find many websites or blogs with high PR and SERPs because of the original contents but with less backlinks. Original, well constructed and well spelled contents are the most weighted tips to the success of the new algorithm. Many of the websites and blogs which were high strong PR (even more than PR 5) are PR 0 because of the more links and sponsored links in their posts or web pages.

The staffs of Google are now trying to clean their search engine and try to make it a spam free where there is no link buying and selling. Even many big webmaster forums have decreased their PR because of their sponsorship and links in their web pages. Now there are some tips that you can do in order to keep your websites in the top positions. Stop using the word “Sponsor” in your post and any part of the web pages and also the partner links can be replaced by some other words like “More Info”.

At another point, the Alexa Ranking is become more important than the Google PR. In the near future, advertisers and most of the webmasters will start giving more emphasis on Alexa ranking if the Google continues with this new algorithm. It is because the Alexa ranking is giving more accurate information about the value and usefulness of the website.

SEO and SEM Out-Dated For Effective

August 10, 2009

Are SEO and SEM Out-Dated For Effective Internet Marketing in 2009?

Back in the late 1990s, many internet marketing companies focussed only on the search engines. There is no denying that the search engines do bring results and hence traffic to a website, but there is life beyond the search engines too!

The exceptional, and hence very busy, companies realised that there was far more to marketing than the search engines, and delivered broad and effective campaigns to their clients, using a variety of different strategies and plenty of metrics to assess results. It has taken almost a decade for the industry to catch up that search engines are not the be all and end all of internet marketing, and that the terms “SEO” and “SEM” are just part of the mix.

However, most website owners are still stuck in the ‘old school’ way of thinking, believing that, having built a website, all that is required is to be number one on the search engines and that is the end of the game plan. This level of thinking has far too frequently been backed up by SEO companies who could see a fast buck in optimising a website and ranking it, often for completely obscure terms, to satisfy the customer without educating either the customer or themselves in the finer points of internet marketing.

Invariably, once ranked on the search engines, the customer discovers that little has changed in the way of traffic, enquiries, sales, brand recognition, and so on, and seeks further assistance to increase the results from all aspects of the website marketing, and generate a return on investment. This can become something of a bottomless pit into which to thrown money, particularly if the company being employed to achieve the aims required is only really expert in SEO.

SEO and SEM are just one strategy to deploy in a marketing campaign, and many of the great IM companies take a holistic view to promoting a website, company or product set. Not only do they seek to generate valuable and unique content for the client (or advise on how to do this), but they employ a range of strategies and processes in order to deliver consistent, high quality traffic to a website, and increase the number of conversions from each action to maximise the potential results.

When seeking out a website promotion company, you should look for companies which offer that breadth of thinking. The services they will offer should include:

    * Email Marketing
    * Forum and blog marketing
    * Pay Per Click campaigns
    * Landing Pages
    * Conversion tracking and metrics
    * Ebooks and article marketing services
    * Press release distribution
    * Optimised content creation
    * Social networking and bookmarking
    * Video and audio content and promotion
    * As well as the good old on and offpage optimisation required to get the search engine rankings.

For every company looking to promote online, there will be a different mix of strategies which will yield the best results, depending on product, brand, target audience and more. It is only by understanding your company and the needs of your potential customers that a suitable internet marketing campaign can be designed, tested and deployed.

Just optimising a few pages for some keywords and phrases has never been sufficient to bring appropriate results, but many in the search engine industry have managed to get away with doing just that, and little more, for over a decade. Now, with the rise of social networks, and the move away from static to dynamic content, virals, and the rise in popularity of video and audio have meant that any company with too narrow a focus when considering marketing tactics can only achieve so much.

Whether you employ an internet marketing company, or train in-house staff to deliver your website promotion, be wary of any specific focus on the terms SEO and SEM. The implication that these are the only methods which will yield results, or the fact that whoever is using them may be unaware of all that is required to deliver an effective online promotion campaign should be fair warning that the person or company using them is still adopting an outmoded way of thinking.

Social Bookmarking and SEO

July 14, 2009

There are social book marking sites out there that give dofollow links. Meaning if you craft a piece of content and title it with the keyword phrase you need, you are getting a free link with the correct anchor text.

In fact, there are 100’s of sites out there you can do this at. I’m not going to give a list of all the dofollow sites I use, but check out this social book marking list and build your own. It simply takes time.

 What you need

     * A piece of content that provides value

    * A compelling title

    * Keyword phrase within the title

    * A way to monitor your accounts

    * Regular analysis of how long each link pops up in google

 Here’s a tip, make up a phrase that no one ranks for, like I did here

Then set up a Google alert for the phrase. Submit your phrase to the entire social book marking sites and wait to see which pops up first. If a site does not pop up, then you have to question the Google juice they are receiving.

 Actually, it’s a great way to see what sites are scraping your content by putting a unique phrase in your title and then setting up the alerts.

 The biggest problem with this method is time and the relative effectiveness of the links. You have to make sure the content is good and the title passes spam detection else it will simply be delete.

 The good thing about it is that it’s a cheap and dirty way to get sites deep crawled and indexed.

 If one of your stories actually gets picked up and voted on at any of the social book marking sites the entire better.
